FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

As a photographer, I get a lot of questions about booking, the session, payment and other miscellaneous information.

Here are a few of the more common ones and our policies!

1. What is In-Person Sales?

In-person sales is not a new concept. Photography studios have been providing printed products to their clients since the camera was invented. This is the business method I follow. My goal as a photographer isn't just to take beautiful photos, but to also provide high quality products that will last a lifetime. I want the walls of your home to be filled with your memories, and not just sitting in a desk drawer on a CD. During your ordering session I will walk you through the products I offer, and help you choose how best to display your art.

2.  Do you have a studio?

Velvet Paper Photography does not operate out of a studio. I prefer natural light and the great outdoors for our backgrounds. I feel it provides a wider range of scenes and helps us customize each session to our clients. I occasionally do indoor photography per request. Please contact me for more details.

3.  What services do you provide?

I provide beautiful and customized portrait photography,  conceptual art, high school senior photos, and couples sessions.

4.  What limits, such as outfit and locations changes, do you set?

I do not set wardrobe change limits (not including Senior Photos). If you can fit ten outfits into your session, then we'll shoot all ten! Keep in mind that the more time you spend changing, the less time we spend shooting.

I do, however, like to keep locations limited to one for standard portrait sessions.

5.  Will my digital copies of the photos, or prints, have your logo or watermark on them?

Absolutely not! I only watermark the digital copies I place on my own social media sites to deter other websites and photographers from stealing them. Unfortunately, photo theft is happening more and more frequently.

6.  What happens if we need to cancel or reschedule?

Due to many no call-no shows, I do require a 50% retainer for weddings and the entire session fee for portraits to be paid at the time of booking your session. The retainer and session fee is non-refundable. If you need to cancel your appointment, I can transfer your retainer to your next session. Without a 48 hour cancellation notice your retainer cannot be transferred.

7.  Do you travel?

Yes, I love visiting new places and will travel for your portrait session or wedding. There is no travel charge within Nicholasville, Kentucky city limits, but I do charge for travel outside of that distance.

8.  How far in advance do I need to book with you?

I can book sessions with as little as a 14 day notice, but to ensure your date is available you should contact me as soon as possible.

9.  How long have you been in business?

I have been studying photography since 2008, and have been a professional photographer since 2011.

10.  Are you the photographer who will shoot my wedding? If so, will you have any assistants with you on that day?

Yes, I own and operate my own business. I do not typically have an assistant, but all my wedding collections include a second photographer.

11.  If my wedding site is out of your area, do you charge a travel fee and what does that cover?

I do charge a travel fee for locations outside Lexington, Kentucky city limits. The travel fee is the standard IRS business rate of 65.5 cents per mile, plus $7.25 per hour for my time.

12.  Are you photographing other events on the same day as mine?

I do not book any other events on your wedding day, but I often book multiple portrait sessions in one day.

13.  How will you (and your assistants) be dressed?

I will typically be wearing all black, unless otherwise requested.

14.  Is it okay if other people take photos while you’re taking photos?

I ask that all other photographs take place after the professional photos are done and that my professional poses are not copied.
